Only the Stars Know Where I’ve Been
Photo exhibition by Jordan Hadlee

FRI OCT 11 - SAT 26 OCT 2024

Stepdown is over the moon to present Only the Stars Know Where I’ve Been, an exhibition by Tāmaki-Makaurau based photographer Jordan Hadlee. Jordan’s exhibition is running in tandem and symbiotic support with the dance performances of the same name by Ctenophora Co. dance collective, which we are hosting as part of the Fringe in the ‘Stings Festival.

Hadlee’s work embodies the emotions and themes central to Only the Stars Know Where I’ve Been. It invites the viewer to reflect on their own journeys, past, present, and future, and the delicacies of personal identity.

In the words of Jordan;

"Ctenophora Co. connected with me to create a series of photographs that not only represent their upcoming performance, Only the Stars Know Where I’ve Been, but also embody the emotions and themes at its core. In this exhibition, my work reflects both the performers and their art while remaining true to my own practice as an artist. I focused on capturing the beauty in the mundane, highlighting the fleeting moments of transition between spaces, identities, and the past and future. By deconstructing and reconstructing familiar elements, I curated this show to feel uncanny, blurring the line between reality and imagination, each photograph acts as a fragment to a larger piece of art."

Welcoming reception for Jordan Hadlee and Ctenophora Co. :
5-7PM, Fri, 11 October

Jordan Hadlee is an up-and-coming photographer and filmmaker currently in his third year studying for a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Whitecliffe College. Hadlee's interest as an artist is within the natural world as an environmentalist, using his art as a platform he addresses the connection between humanity and the environment by distorting landforms and creating surreal landscapes. Hadlee's hope is that he can advocate change by reaching a wider audience by using his photography to offer a unique perspective on the world. Creating an intersection between art, environmental consciousness, and sustainability.
