WORLD RESOURCES
ARCHIVE EXHIBITION

MAR 1 - 16, 2024

Stepdown is delighted to present the World Resources Archive exhibition.

World Resources was the flagship label attached to the Wellington, Pōneke drone/noise band Surface of the Earth.

Resolutely DIY in its humble, bottom-of-the-world, cottage industry transmissions, World Resources released small run lathe and cassette releases that heralded the burgeoning underground Aotearoa noise scene, disseminated into a world of eager, like-minded listeners and practitioners.

Celebrating 30 years of activity, this archive presents the methodical details, the minutiae and mechanics of a labor-of-love record label, that transcended the parochial, eventuating in international acclaim and beyond - all from a pre-internet age of snail mail and money orders, craft knives, tape and glue.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a live music performance the night after it opens, on March 2nd at Hastings Community Arts Centre.
